Started in 1983, the Frederick Foodbank is staffed by 50 volunteers and provides a 3- to 5-day supply of food to families and individuals that are experiencing an economic crisis and cannot afford their groceries. After two years of major construction, the nonprofit Maryland Food Bank hopes to serve as a central point in the state for hunger relief efforts and expand its culinary job training program as it pushes for increased community efforts during national Hunger Action Month. In 2020, this team came together with the Lower Shore Vulnerable Populations Task Force, Maryland Food Bank, and other organizations to host and participate in drive-thru community distribution events. Fresh food boxes, non-perishable food items, healthcare information, rental assistance, and other resources were often available at these events.
